Congratulations Officer Karnes and Charlie! Thank you for protecting our community. We are lucky to have you both, as well as the rest of Springfield, MO Police Department. #protectingourcommunity #K9 #SPD #heroCongratulations to Officer Karnes and Charlie for being recognized by the National Police Canine Association for this case:

On April 26, 2017, the Springfield Police Department responded to an injury accident where the driver of a vehicle struck another car and caused physical injury to the victim. The suspect driver fled from the vehicle on foot. Officer Karnes and his K9, Charlie, responded to the scene to assist with tracking the subject.

The last known location for the suspect was a heavily traveled area during rush hour. However, Charlie began to track the suspect from the vehicle and northbound behind a business. Officer Karnes and Charlie tracked the suspect west over multiple surface types including wet asphalt, gravel and grass for over 350 paces. Charlie tracked the suspect to a home and a nearby neighborhood and made an abrupt direction change to the backyard of this residence. Charlie then pulled Officer Karnes to a stack of pallets in the backyard of this residence that was covered with a tarp. Due to Charlie pulling Officer Karnes to the opening of the tarp, Officer Karnes gave loud verbal commands for the suspect to identify himself. The suspect was in fact hiding under the tarp and unveiled himself from the stack of pallets without further incident. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and arrested on multiple charges.

Our officers recently responded to a serious incident outside of a Springfield elementary school. The bad guy went to jail, and no one was hurt. A few days later, we received these cards from some of the students. What a great reminder of why we do what we do.

They made each other's, Day! And to all that really know Leah. She don't walk up to NO MAN.
But she wanted a pic with this Officer!!!
Imagine that.
She remembered the stickers, and fun she had around the Police, and Firemen.
At Community and Church functions she been to, also at home when they visited our home. All these encounters with them had a Very Positive Impact in her. Because what you see in this pic Screams, Officers and Children MATTER!!!
I SALUTE this Officer as he tells me she really made his day!!!
Just by looking at this pic all can tell, the Officer made Leah's day too.
